How to synchronize songs

On a good configuration: Windows 2000 or XP, with a good sound card and driver (SB Live cards work well), and a good input device (keyboard, most USB devices), audio and input should be very well-synchronized. It's difficult to measure the overall latency properly, but unless there are bugs I'm not aware of, it should be well under 5ms.

The most common synchronization issue is simply poor authoring. You can often use autosync to adjust synchronization, provided the rest of the file (eg. BPM settings) is correct.

Aside from that, latent audio can cause synchronization problems (some mixers may do this), or latent input (wireless keyboards?).

For reference, a Marvelous, by default, is 22.5ms, and a Perfect is 45ms.
