LongVerSongSeconds=150.000000
MarathonVerSongSeconds=300.000000

Controls how long a song must be before it is considered a Long Version (requires 2 stages) or considered a Marathon Version (requires 3 stages). Set these values to 99999 if you want to disable Long and Marathon songs and have every song take only one stage.

Common Tweaks

Change length of max high score listings

Find the lines in stepmania.ini:
MaxHighScoresPerListForMachine=10
MaxHighScoresPerListForPlayer=3


The first number is a global high score, the second is per-profile. These list lengths have no relation to the SMMAX (type a/b/c/d) top score lists. Also, setting the numbers higher than default will make SM try to find additional graphics for the new rankings.

Load data/songs from multiple locations

Find the lines in stepmania.ini:
AdditionalFolders=
AdditionalSongFolders=


Add the path of the other location. You can use this to load off a CD or USB devices.

Percentage Scoring

Find the line in stepmania.ini:
PercentageScoring=0


and change it to 1.

Timing Windows

The timing windows are controlled from stepmania.ini, with the "JudgeWindowSeconds..." values. Each value is the maximum time(in seconds) that the player may hit the note in to get that grade.

In gameplay, each note is graded based on your timing. The windows for each grade level can be found and changed in stepmania.ini:
