For figuring out the BPM of a song, I use Mixmeister's BPM Analyzer. It also embeds the BPM into the file, I think through its ID3 tags. To the hundredths place, I've found it quite useful. It only gives one BPM rating, so if it changes mid-song, you'll have to split the mp3 file and have it figure out both parts. I've found the program quite useful, though it's only for windows.
